What size is the Warren Hill baby play mat?

The quilted play mat is 115cm in diameter and round. It gives a baby room for tummy time and a crawling toddler room to move, and it sits in a nursery or living room without dominating the floor. Our padded memory foam mat is a different shape again — 1m x 1m x 3cm and square.

How thick is the play mat?

The quilted mats are 880gsm in total: a 550gsm padded wadding quilted between two layers of fabric. That is thick enough to cushion a baby's head during tummy time on floorboards or tiles, while still folding down to store. The padded memory foam mat is 3cm thick and is the one to choose for tile or polished concrete.

What is the play mat made from?

The linen mat is 100% French flax linen with a soft polyester fill. The flax is grown in France, then woven, cut, pre-washed and sewn by our socially-accredited manufacturing partners in China. The cotton mat is 100% sandwashed cotton with the same polyester fill. The padded mat uses a memory foam insert with a waterproof cotton terry protector inside a removable fabric cover.

Is it safe for a newborn?

Yes. Every mat is certified to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, which means every component has been tested for harmful substances, and each is suitable from birth for supervised tummy time. As with any soft surface, babies should always sleep on a firm, flat sleep surface — a play mat is for play, not sleep.

What age is it for?

From birth through the toddler years. Most families start with supervised tummy time in the first weeks, then keep using it through rolling, sitting, crawling and floor play. Because it reads as a piece of homewares rather than baby equipment, it tends to stay in the living room long after the baby gym has been put away.

Can you machine wash it?

The quilted linen and cotton mats go in a domestic washing machine whole. Wash warm at 40°C with a mild detergent and line dry out of direct sunlight. There is no removable cover and no dry cleaning required. The padded memory foam mat is different: the cover unzips and is machine washable, while the foam insert is not washed — it is shielded by a waterproof cotton terry protector.

Does linen get softer over time?

Yes. Washed French flax linen softens with every wash rather than pilling or breaking down, which is why the mats are often passed on to a second child.

What is the difference between the linen, cotton and padded play mats?

The linen mat costs $164.95 and the cotton mat $109.95. Both are 115cm round, 880gsm, quilted, and machine washable whole. Linen is more breathable, softens with each wash and has a textured natural finish; cotton is smoother and more uniform in colour. The padded mat costs $219.95, is 1m square and 3cm thick with a memory foam insert and a removable washable cover. Choose padded for maximum cushioning on hard floors, quilted for portability and whole-mat washing.

Will it fit in a small apartment?

At 115cm across the quilted mat takes up roughly the footprint of a round coffee table, and it folds away when not in use. Unlike a foam interlocking mat it does not need to stay down permanently, and unlike a baby gym it reads as a rug rather than as baby equipment.

Is a play mat a good baby shower gift?

A play mat is one of the few gifts a first-time parent is unlikely to already have and will not outgrow in a few months. It is used daily from the first weeks of tummy time through toddlerhood. At $164.95 the linen mat also sits in the range where a gift is often pooled between several friends or a workplace; the cotton mat at $109.95 suits a gift from one person.

Can you send it straight to the parents?

Yes. Enter their address as the delivery address at checkout. Every play mat arrives in a matching dust bag, so it does not need separate wrapping.

How quickly do you ship within Australia?

Orders are dispatched from Currumbin on the Gold Coast within 2 business days via Australia Post. Australian orders over $250 ship free.
